Space Suit Engineer

At Landstronaut, we are on a mission to design and develop the next generation of space suits that will empower humans to thrive in extraterrestrial environments. Driven by innovation and guided by a vision of sustainable life beyond from Land to Space, we are creating advanced solutions that cater to the needs of space explorers. We value diverse perspectives, fostering a collaborative environment that brings together experts from various fields to solve complex challenges. As part of our pioneering efforts in the commercial space sector, we are transforming the way humans interact with and operate in space. We are seeking individuals who are passionate about exploration, problem-solving, and advancing technology for a better future on Earth and beyond.

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Define and maintain comprehensive requirements for space suit environments, ensuring applicability across all operational systems and components.

  • Lead the end-to-end verification process for space suit functionality, including:

  • Developing and implementing strategies for system, subsystem, and component-level testing.

  • Coordinating and executing verification activities, including performance evaluations and safety checks.

  • Managing documentation, drafting closure reports, and ensuring compliance with regulatory standards.

  • Collaborate closely with internal teams to refine design specifications and address technical requirements for various space suit systems.

  • Engage with key stakeholders, including hardware developers, project leads, and external regulatory agencies, to align project goals and specifications.

  • Provide support to other Systems Engineering and Integration functions as needed to ensure cohesive project development.

  • Qualifications

  • Candidates must demonstrate the skills and expertise necessary to excel in the role. SSU is committed to providing reasonable accommodations for individuals with disabilities to perform essential functions.

  • Education & Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Materials Science, Physics, or a related field from an accredited institution.

  • 5-7 years of experience in systems engineering, with a focus on wearable technology, life support systems, or related fields.

  • Desired Qualifications

  • Domain expertise in space suit design, environmental control, human space systems, electronics, or protective gear for extreme environments.

  • Experience in Agile development and rapid prototyping methodologies.

  • Familiarity with requirements management software such as Jama, DOORS, or other related tools.

  • Requirements

  • Proof of U.S. Citizenship or Permanent Residency.

  • Ability to successfully pass a U.S. government background check.

  • Individuals must be able to perform the duties and responsibilities listed above.  The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.

  •         Education & Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in Engineering, Physics, or related field.

Advanced Polymer Engineer

We are seeking an innovative and detail-oriented Advanced Polymer Engineer to join our team. This position focuses on the development, design, and testing of high-performance polymer materials for use in various applications, including but not limited to radiation protection, aerospace, space suits, and advanced manufacturing. The ideal candidate will play a critical role in pioneering new technologies that push the boundaries of material science, ensuring safety, durability, and efficiency.
 

  • Key Responsibilities

  • Material Design & Development: Develop and optimize advanced polymer formulations to meet specific application requirements such as high durability, flexibility, radiation shielding, and thermal stability.

  • Research & Prototyping: Conduct in-depth research to understand the performance characteristics of different polymers and develop innovative solutions for new and existing products.

  • Testing & Quality Assurance: Design and implement rigorous testing protocols to evaluate polymer properties, ensuring products meet safety, performance, and quality standards.

  • Collaboration: Work closely with cross-functional teams, including mechanical engineers, design teams, and external partners, to integrate advanced polymers into broader projects and products.

  • Project Management: Lead material development projects from concept to production, including budgeting, scheduling, and resource allocation.

  • Sustainability Focus: Identify and implement eco-friendly materials and processes, aligning with sustainability goals and industry regulations.

  • Documentation & Reporting: Maintain detailed documentation of all processes, experiments, and results, preparing technical reports and presenting findings to stakeholders.
     

  • Qualifications

  • Education: Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Polymer Science, Chemical Engineering, Materials Science, or a related field. A Ph.D. is preferred.

  • Experience: Minimum of 3-5 years of experience in polymer development, with a focus on high-performance or specialty polymers.
     

  • Technical Skills:

  • Proficiency in polymer synthesis, processing, and characterization techniques.

  • Knowledge of material properties and behavior under different environmental conditions (e.g., extreme temperatures, radiation exposure).

  • Familiarity with testing standards and regulatory requirements for materials in aerospace, defense, or medical applications.

  • Experience with simulation software (e.g., COMSOL, MATLAB) for material analysis and optimization.
     

  • Soft Skills:

  • Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.

  • Excellent communication skills, with the ability to convey complex technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders.

  • Ability to work independently and as part of a collaborative team.
     

  • Desirable:

  • Experience in developing polymers for aerospace or space applications.
